Hortobágy National Park Visitor Centre and Shepherd's Museum

Hortobágy

During the opening hours of the HNP Visitor Centre, you can visit the interactive exhibitions The Nature of the Hortobágy, The World of the Darvas and The Pusztai Treasure Trove - The Benefits of Livestock.

As a World Heritage Site, Hortobágy has universal value. At the exhibitions you can get acquainted with the flora and fauna, with special emphasis on cranes.

The Pusztai Treasure Trove exhibition shows the everyday life of the peasant farm and the treasures that grazing animals can offer to man. In one of the rooms of the treasure house, you can also experience a realistic VR wagon trip. The Nine Hole Bridge, located a few metres from the Visitor Centre, has become a symbol of the Hortobágy. One of Hungary's most famous landmarks! This distinctive stone bridge was built in the classicist style and connects the two banks of the Hortobágy River, which crosses the Great Plain.

The Shepherds' Museum, housed in the former wagon-house of the inn, offers a playful, interactive introduction to the mysterious world of pastoral pastoralism and the pastoral life of the Hortobágy. The exhibition tells the story of what it was like to be a shepherd in the past and what it is like to be a shepherd today in the Hortobágy.
