Dragonfly Boat Tour

Lake Tisza

With the beginning of spring, the warming environment is bringing life to the Lake Tisza bird sanctuary. Breeding birds arrive and begin to establish nesting sites and then nest.

As we move into summer, warmer water means that fields of sulyom, fairy rose colonies and the beautiful yellow fairy veil can begin to bloom. The end of June is the time for the drawing of the cortices, known as the 'tisza bloom', a unique sight in Europe with cortices fluttering above the water's surface. Birds are at their most active during this period, with many species of birds to be seen on tours.

In autumn, as temperatures drop, birds slowly fly south in search of warmer countries. Aquatic plants also turn yellow and disappear from the surface of the water. A rare sight is the leaves on the trees around us in their many colours as we navigate the channels of the bay. This is another time of year when you can see the thousand faces of Lake Tisza from a different angle.

In winter, the water level of Lake Tisza is lowered and life is reduced to a minimum. Everyone rests.
