Arboretum of Tiszaigar
Tiszaigar
As a result of the renovation and plant stock development process carried out in 2016-2017, the Tiszaigar Arboretum is shining in a new light, and has earned the name of the Treasure Chest of the Great Plain.
The planting of the arboretum, which began as a promenade garden, was started in 1867 by Péter Széky, a landowner and military engineer from Tiszaigar, influenced by the Habsburg castle gardens, and later continued by his son, Péter Széky Jr. Péter Széky continued the work with the help of his friend Pál Bolza.
The arboretum was declared a nature reserve of national importance in 1976. The 46 hectares area is currently managed by NEFAG Nagykunság Forestry and Timber Ltd.
Visitors to the arboretum can walk along the charming paths and encounter a variety of native and exotic species, and can immerse themselves in the diversity of the oak species collection and the colourful cavalcade of shrub species.
New information panels and signposts will highlight the species and local history on display.
The arboretum is open all year round, but the autumn foliage of the marsh cypresses makes late autumn a memorable time to visit.
Tickets can be purchased at the ticket machine, which accepts coins of 50 Ft, 100 Ft, 200 Ft.
